The Bohol Employment and Placement Office-Public Employment Service Office (Bepo-Peso) has bagged another feather in the cap by winning the recently concluded regional award for the 2024 Best Peso under the First-Class Province category.

Bepo-Peso head Maria Vilma Yorong gladly  her staff of the great news right after the announcement of winners last week.

Other regional Peso winners were DMDP/LGU-Peso Cebu City for the Highly Urbanized City category, LGU-Peso Dumaguete City under the Component City category, LGU-Peso Talibon in the Province of Bohol for the First-Class Municipality category, and LGU-Peso Mabini, Bohol under the 4th-6th Class Municipality category.

These local government units (LGUs) will vie for the National 2024 Search for Best PesoAward in October this year during the holding of the 2024 National PESO Congress.

Winners were adjudged against the following criteria: Impact of Performance/Achievement that includes Referral and Placement; Labor Market Information (LMI); Career Guidance and Employment Coaching; Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) programs being implemented; Recipient of Awards from prestigious institutions (employment-related achievements); and Leadership and membership with active involvement in any organization which contributes to employment of their constituents.

“I am so proud of this milestone and we (me and my staff) are keeping our fingers crossed that our office will again emerge as one of the winners this year. My people have always shown hard work and resilience through all the trials related to our various programs and this very prestigious award could very well make our sacrifices all worth it,”  said Yorong.

She added further that long overtime hours especially during weekdays when they sometimes arrive home very late at night or in the wee hours of the morning; or during weekends when they had to report to the office to finish their assigned tasks just to make sure that program implementation and proper protocol are strictly followed is but a small price to pay just to experience the euphoria of bagging the coveted title.

DOLE-7 Regional Director Lilia Estillore who headed the Search, lauded all the Pesos especially the winners for demonstrating commitment as an intermediary arm of DOLE in delivering its programs and services. Recognizing the regional nominees, she added, “is a way of honoring the contributions of the PESOs to DOLE’s advocacy on poverty alleviation and employment generation.”

“We are grateful to the different LGUs through their Pesos for the continued efforts in serving as extension hands of DOLE in the service of providing employment facilitation. The Best Peso Award is an honor that may be given to the winners but every PESO even without an award are all winners through the service they give. Let us not give up on this victory!” Director Estillore encouraged everyone.

Together with RD Estillore in deliberating the regional winners were DOLE-7’s partners Leo Pasilang of the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG-7); Wilkie E. Reroma of Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA-7); Nigel Wenceslao of PALSCON-Cebu Chapter as Employers’ Representative; Kim R. Francisco, Exec. Vice-President of PESOMAP-Central Visayas, Inc.; Dr. Efren O. Vito, Chief of DOLE-7’s Technical Support and Services Division (TESSD); and Ms. Jessica A. Uy, Regional Employment Focal Person of DOLE -7.

The Search for Best Peso is an annual activity that recognizes the significant contributions and outstanding accomplishments of PESOs in the deployment of DOLE-initiated employment facilitation programs.

“This initiative is also an avenue to acknowledge the exemplary performance of the Pesos as a labor market information hub and provider of employment services such as job referral and placements, career guidance, and employment coaching to the intended clients,” Director Estillore finally said, ending her moving and inspiring speech.
