Former Tagbilaran City Mayor Baba Yap formally declared on Monday, June 24, 2024, his candidacy as a congressman in the first district of Bohol.
In his acceptance speech, Yap said he wanted to spread the progress enjoyed by the people of Tagbilaran to 14 towns in the first district.
“Nakita ug nabati pud nato kada adto nako sa nagkalainglaing mga lungsod usa ra gud ang ilang isulti. Kahibaw mo og unsa? ‘Sana All Taga Tagbilaran’,” said Yap.
“Mao na gusto pud nato nga palapdan ang pagserbisyo. Gusto nato ihatag pud sa katawhan sa unang distrito ang serbisyong asenso pa more, ang serbisyong tinud-anay nga natagamtan sa Tagbilaran aron makatilaw sab sila og asenso pa more,” he added.
Yap would likely go fight against incumbent First District Rep. Edgar Chatto who has still one term left.
The event was attended by 14 village chiefs in Tagbilaran, purok leaders and supporters.

Cogon Barangay Captain Genison Balbin didn’t attend. Balbin is known as City Councilor Atoy Torralba’s supporter, who is rumored to run against Mayor Jane Yap, the wife of the young congressional aspirant.
Another highlight of the event was the formal recognition of Booy Barangay Captain Jun Telmo as a new member of “Asenso Pa More.” Telmo, who is identified with former Mayor Dan Lim, has now crossed over to the administration group.
Yap accepted the endorsement from the officials of barangay and ward leaders.
Meanwhile, the slate of Mayor Jane Yap and Vice Mayor Adam Jala was also presented to the public.
