The province of Bohol has been chosen to host and be the inspiration of Geo-Summit 2024 on April 17 in Panglao town.

Organized by the Geobrugg, the three-day event will be bannered by the slogan “Safety is our nature.”

Gov. Erico Aristotle Aumentado has been invited to grace the opening rites and welcome the participants.

The conference on “Advancing Geotechnical Slope Stabilization Techniques” will cover details and announcements of slope stability that will allow further exploration to make infrastructures resilient and safe to the various challenges brought by the changing climate.

It enjoys the patronage of the Philippine Institute of Civil Engineers (PICE) which counts on 100,000 members in the civil engineering profession with over a hundred chapters in the Philippines and 13 international chapters.

The PICE encouraged its members to become more comfortable with continual change, think across traditional boundaries, and appreciate differences in perspectives and methods to address global challenges effectively.

In line with this, the PICE disaster risk management tackled one of the many hazards that the Philippines experience – Geohazard – which puts millions of Filipino lives at risk.

Landslides involve different types of material, mechanisms, and widely varying time scales commonly triggered by rainfall hence the need for the holding of a geo-summit.

Geobrugg, with its main headquarters in Romanshorn, Switzerland, is an independent company within the BRUGG GROUP.

Developing and manufacturing protection solutions since 1951, Geobrugg is the leading name in developing and producing protection systems.

Decades after it started operations, Geobrugg’s product range continued to develop further. It has created solutions for protection from natural hazards such as landslides, mudflows and avalanche prevention structures.

Bohol is the first and only UNESCO Global Geopark and regenerative island which boasts of breathtaking geological landscapes such as the Chocolate Hills, Hinagdanan Cave and many more.

The province takes pride in the rich cultural geological diversity and is beneficial as the backdrop for the presentation of Geobrugg’s innovative slope stabilization nets.

The event comes at a time when Bohol is seeking to balance stability, sustainability, and progress and actively exploring ways to protect nature’s wonder while simultaneously improving the lives of the people to create a resilient, and safe infrastructure and utilities. (PIMO/RJG)
