The Bohol Provincial Environment Management Office (BPEMO) won big as this year’s ‘Most Improved Office Internal Control System’.
This was announced after the Capitol’s weekly flag-raising ceremony held on March 25.
The award was conceived to commend offices that actively addressed the Provincial Internal Audit Office’s (PIAO) findings and followed its recommendations to achieve the highest compliance rating.
According to PIAO, out of the 20 qualified auditees, only seven, or 35%, have submitted their compliance evidence.
Aside from BPEMO, compliant offices include the Provincial Security Force, the Bohol Economic Development and Investment Promotion Office, the Provincial Economic Enterprise Management Office, Cafe Caloy, the Education Development Center, and the Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office.
Among the seven finalists, BPEMO received the highest validated compliance rating and was declared the winner for 2023.
Gov. Erico Aristotle Aumentado, along with May Limbaga, PIAO’s office head, awarded BPEMO with a laptop and a plaque citing it as the most improved office internal control system.
On its Facebook page, BPEMO said it considered the achievement “a testament to our unwavering dedication to enhancing internal controls and ensuring accountability and efficiency in our operations.”
BPEMO said it “believes in continuous improvement and strives for excellence” and considers the recognition as validation of its efforts that motivates them “to keep pushing boundaries and setting higher standards.”
Jovencia Ganub currently heads the office with its mandate committed to facilitating, integrating, and harmonizing all activities in the management of protecting environmental quality towards good public health, environmental integrity, and economic viability of the province, aligned with the Capitol’s strategic change agenda.
The office is also credited with its notable efforts in leading the provincial government in maintaining Bohol’s designation as the Philippines’ first UNESCO Global Geopark regenerative island province.
