Gov. Aris Aumentado on Saturday sent his condolences to the family of the police officer killed in the encounter with the New People’s Army (NPA) in Barangay Campagao in Bilar town.
Police Corporal Gilbert J. Amper Jr. was dead on arrival at the Congressman Simeon Toribio Memorial Hospital in Carmen town shortly after government troops clashed with NPA rebels on Friday morning.
“Sa iyang pagtuman sa responsibilidad isip tigpanalipod sa katawhan batok sa kasamok, iyang gisakripisyo ang iyang kaugalingon batok sa mga grupo nga aduna lamang tumong nga gub-on ang panaghiusa sa katawhang Bol-anon ubos sa bandera sa demokrasya,” said Aumentado in a Facebook post.
” Nahisubo kita sa nahitabo kaniya sa bag-uhay pa lamang na engkwentro, apan nisaludo usab kita sa iyang gipakita nga pakigbisog alang sa kalinaw ug kahapsay sa atong mahal nga probinsya, ” he added.
Aumentado visited the wake of Amper last Friday night.
A P100,000 financial assistance was given to the family.
Five rebels were also killed during the encounter including Domingo Compoc, alias “Kumander Cobra,” a high ranking NPA official.
Lieutenant Colonel Norman Nuez, spokesperson of the Bohol Police Provincial Office (BPPO), said that military and police personnel were reportedly in the area to serve a warrant of arrest.
The warrant of arrest was issued against Compoc and his cohorts. However, when they arrived in the area armed men fired against them.
Police Corporal Gilbert Amper assigned at provincial intelligence unit (PIU) at BPPO was pronounced dead on arrival at Congressman Simeon Toribio Memorial Hospital. Another police officer was injured.
Recovered evidences from the NPA were one unit M16 Baby Armalite;. 1 unit R4 M16; 1 unit M16; and 3 units of caliber .45 pistol.
Scene of the Crime Operatives (Soco) team from Philippine National Police Forensic Science Unit – Bohol were deployed at the area and currently conducting crime scene investigation.
The firefight lasted for two hours and 45 minutes which ended at 9:35 a. m.
At least 250 families or 774 individuals were evacuated to Campagao Covered Court by PNP personnel.
