Prov’l gov’t recognizes blood services program achievers

The provincial government of Bohol celebrated accomplishments in blood donation and blood collection under the National Voluntary Blood Services Program for the year 2022.

“Life begets life,” Dr. Cesar Tomas Lopez, Provincial Health Officer I, said of the importance of the program as he welcomed guests and awardees during the awarding ceremonies held at the Ceremonial Hall of the Capitol on Dec. 20.

Through Lopez, the Provincial Health Office (PHO) acknowledged good performing local government units (LGUs) and expressed hope that they will serve as an example for other LGUs to exert efforts towards the noble life saving act of donating blood.

The San Isidro LGU led by Mayor Diosdado Gementiza received the Rajah Sikatuna Excellence in Blood Collection Award for consistently hitting the target 1% of population for blood donation in the last four years.

The best in blood donor retention award was given to Antequera LGU for having the greatest number of repeat blood donors.

Meanwhile, the single largest mobile blood donation award went to Jagna LGU with 143 units of blood donated in a single LGU-initiated blood donation activity.

Tagbilaran City earned the platinum award LGU category for its exemplary achievement in holding the most number of blood donation activities and blood collection.

On the other hand, Teodoro B. Galagar District Hospital in Jagna received the same platinum award for community category.

Declared as blood champion awardees were Jagna and Guindulman with all 33 and 19 of their barangays, respectively, achieving the 1% blood donation target.

The gold awardees for meeting the blood donation target were LGUs of Sikatuna, Guindulman, Jagna, Corella and Lila.

Coming in next as silver awardees were Sierra Bullones, Sevilla, Danao, Candijay and Pilar.

The bronze award went to Duero, Carmen, San Miguel, Bilar, Calape, Batuan, Alicia, Clarin, Tubigon, Baclayon, Talibon, Catigbian and Dagohoy.

Excellence awards were also conferred to a total of 267 barangays for meeting the national target for 2022.

According to Jocelyn Tabotabo, regional program manager, Bohol posted a 1.07% accomplishment rate in 2022, with 15,743 blood donors out of its 1.4 million population.

Lawyer Filipina Asoy-Piollo, who delivered the message of Gov. Erico Aristotle Aumentado, emphasized the importance of saving lives by donating blood.

The governor took pride in the achievements of LGUs as well as program partners that contribute to the aspiration for a smart and resilient province through inclusive health care and social services.

Also honored during the occasion were “blood galloners” or individual repeat blood donors as well as the blood collecting units of Governor Celestino Gallares Memorial Medical Center and Don Emilio Del Valle Memorial Hospital. (PIMO/LMS)
