The Bohol Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction Management (PDRRM) Council received the 2023 Gawad KALASAG Seal (Beyond Compliant Category) for excellence in disaster risk reduction management and humanitarian assistance.

Gov. Erico Aristotle Aumentado, PDRRM council chairman, received the distinction from Secretaries Gilberto Teodoro of the Department of National Defense and Benjamin Abalos Jr. of the Department of Interior and Local Government during the national awarding ceremony held at The Manila Hotel on Dec. 11.

Aumentado was accompanied by Ryan Palma, PDRRMO administrative officer, and Jose Requeron, TaRSIER 117 head of operations, representing Dr. Anthony Damalerio, PDRRM officer.

The PDRRMO is the only LDRRM office in Region 7 that received the award for its robust management plans and the technical services it provides during events of natural hazards and other calamities happening in Bohol.

“Akong gidayeg ang atong PDRRMO ug TaRSIER 117 na uban sa atong pagdumala, ilang gipakita ang talagsaong serbisyo alang sa atong katawhang Bol-anon,” said Aumentado in a statement.

Last year, PDRRMO received a fully-compliant Gawad Kalasag Award for its disaster risk reduction management and services.

The award recognizes LGUs that adhere to the mandates of Republic Act No. 10121, also known as the Philippine Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Act of 2010, an act providing a comprehensive, all-hazard, multi-sectoral, inter-agency, and community-based approach to disaster risk management through the formulation of the National Disaster Risk Management Framework.

According to the Office of Civil Defense, the concept of Gawad KALASAG (KAlamidad at Sakuna LAbanan, SAriling Galing ang Kaligtasan) was adopted from the Filipino term for shield, ‘kalasag’, used by early Filipinos as a means of protection from attacks of enemies or harmful animals.

Under the Strategic Change Agenda of the Aumentado-Balite Administration, the province aims to become resilient from calamities and hazards through strong disaster risk reduction management that prevents disaster losses. (PIMO)
