Over 500 runners took part in celebration of the 3rd World Tourism Day Run, organized by the Provincial Government of Bohol (PGBh) through the Bohol Provincial Tourism Office (BPTO) in partnership with the Bohol Adventure and Fitness Team.Â
The gun sent off the runners at the Plaza Rizal last Sept. 30.
A total of 441 took part in the five-kilometer event while 115 vied in the 10-kilometer event.
The impressive number was due to the efforta of partner government agencies as well as from the private sector, academe, tour and travel sector, and running enthusiasts, according to BPTO head Joanne Pinat.
In the official tally, Prince Joey Lee emerged as first finisher, clocking in at 32:50 for the 10km run-male category. Franklin Ferdie Lee and Leonard Kimboy came in at second and third place respectively.
Meanwhile, Artjoy Torregosa came in first in the 10-kilometer female category by clocking 39:46.
She was trailed by Asia Paraase and Evamie Villarin for second and third.
Mark Mahinay ruled the five-kilometer race while Jhonn Marc Dixon and Jessie Abelgos rounded out the next two places respectively.
In the five-kilometer female category, Cherry Andrin breasted the tape first followed by Jeanly Mata and Anika Thea Austral.Â





The fun run was in collaboration with LGU Dauis and Tagbilaran City and was sponsored by Kew Hotel/McDonald’s Ja Clarin, L and C Travel Services, Cong. Edgar Chatto, Cong. Vanessa Aumentado and Cong. Alexi Tutor.
Also supporting the fun run as sponsors were Metro Centre/Mithi Resort & Spa, Best Western Plus The Ivywall Resort, Graham ATV & Bugcar Rental, Ramyer Travel and Tour, Coco Berry and Masaje de Bohol.
Completing the sponsors were LV Travel & Tour, Durban’s, Your Seascape, Loboc River Resort, Bohol Fun Tours, Green Thumb, South Palms Resort, Pocari Sweat, Fitbar, Nature’s Spring Water and Rio Verde Floating Resto.
In its third stretch, the run was part of the series of activities to bring awareness of tourism sustainability in celebration of World Tourism Day.
Last Sept. 27, a mini symposium on the Bohol Island Geopark was organized for students of University of Bohol, Holy Name University, BIT International College, Tagbilaran City College and Bohol Island State University.
“Pista Sa Kadagatan,” a 3-day educational summit caravan on the province’s rich marine resources and its advocacy to protect them also opened on the same day.
Earlier, a training for tourism officers on resiliency and risk mitigation in tourism destinations and workshops on Bohol as a regenerative island was also held.
The PGBh, under the leadership of Gov. Aris Aumentado and the Sangguniang Panlalawigan headed by Vice Gov. Victor Balite are pushing sustainable tourism as a priority towards higher growth and development in its strategic agenda. (PIMO/LMS)
