Upset over his prolonged illness and treatment cost, a barangay councilor who was supposed to run for village chairman
checked into an inn in Tagbilaran City and allegedly died by suicide Tuesday.
The suicide, according to reports, was the latest in a string of suicides in the province.
Michael (not his real name to protect his family) who was an incumbent councilor of a village in Loon town in Loon, had filed his candidacy for village chairman before the sad incident.
The 51-year-old, according to what was reconstructed, stayed in an inn in Tagbilaran City when he drank from a bottle of muriatic acid. He felt ill immediately and died.
He left a purported suicide note, stating that he was “upset” over his illness and treatment cost and didn’t wish to burden his family.
Police said no foul play is suspected so far and they are questioning family and friends.
