Bohol Governor Aris Aumentado on Saturday visited Barangay San Vicente in Pilar, the epicenter of the African Swine Fever (ASF) outbreak in the province, to assess the community’s situation and provide assistance.

Aumentado was accompanied by Barangay Captain Christopher Lagapa, Office of the Provincial Veterinarian (OPV) Head Dr. Stella Marie Lapiz, and Office of the Provincial Social Welfare and Development (OPSWD) Head Carmelita Tecson.

They distributed indemnification totaling P137,000 for affected pig owners, cash assistance of P10,000, food packs from OPSWD for the eight affected families, and food packs for quarantine personnel from the Governor’s personal funds.

Aumentado’s stringent measures to prevent ASF transmission persist through Executive Order No. 41, accompanied by Memorandum Order No. 2023-0074.

“Kanunay ang atong mga paningkamot aron maprotektahan ang hog industry diri sa atong lalawigan. Padayon gihapon kita sa pagsunod sa mga patakaran batok sa ASF,” said Aumentado on a Facebook post.

He said Bohol has a P6-billion hog industry to protect.

There were at least 87 pigs killed when ASF reached the Bohol soil just recently.
