Twenty-two year old Mel Rose Oliverio, representing barangay Rizal, was crowned Miss Batuan 2022 during the coronation night on October 30, 2022 as part of the birthday of Batuan town, according to the facebook post of the first lady Nora Balatero Jumawid, wife of Mayor Atty. Antonino “Dodo” Jumawid.

Other hopefuls were Ashley Bag-ao, representing barangay Cantigdas, 1st Runner-Up; Maisy Ann Mercado of Pob. Norte, 2nd Runner-Up; Acelyn Dweneth Hingpit of Sta. Cruz, 3rd Runner-Up; and Mary Jade Gella of Pob. Sur, 4th Runner-Up.

The first lady said, “To the fourteen amazing women who have taken on the challenge of representing our beloved Batuan, you have performed wonderfully. Thank you for all your hard work and efforts! May you continue to grow into exemplary women in the future!”

Oliverio harvested other special awards: Miss Beautiful Smile, Miss Cignal, Miss Photogenic, Best in production, Best in talent, Best in Swimwear, Best Speaker / interview, and Best in Gown, according to fb post of The Art Nouveau Models.

Oliverio represented barangay Rizal. Her mother, who is a native Batuananon, was born and raised in Batuan . She came from the “Caseres” and “Hingo” families. Although Mel Rose did not spend most of her time in Batuan during her childhood and teenage years, she visited and is continually visiting the town every now and then, to get in touch with her roots. She feels that she belongs to Batuan- the home of her mother.
Melot as she is fondly called by her family and friends, is a fresh graduate of the course Bachelor of Culture and Arts Education in University of Bohol and is a recipient of two awards: Leadership and Service. She was an active SSG officer in her college days. She is currently an active member-leader of CYF- Christian Youth Fellowship of the United Church of Christ in the Philippines and of Kleos Bland. Melot is also a volunteer teacher.
Aside from her amazing talent in singing, she also loves to paint and draw, and can play different musical instruments. Melot is an embodiment of beauty with a purpose and heart to serve the people and the community. For her, the various local and national leadership conferences and seminars she has participated contributed a lot to her understanding and perceptions of the Filipino youth and Filipino culture, and the socio economic conditions of the country. Melot is also an environment and cultural heritage protection and preservation advocate. She believes that “Even if there are obstacles and hindrances that you will encounter in your life, don’t lose hope but instead face all the challenges with profound faith and trust in God,” according to the fb post.
