Governor Aris Aumentado on Wednesday (August 3) met with Chinese Ambassador to the Philippines Huang Xilian.

Xilian, alongside other Chinese delegates, paid a courtesy call on Aumentado at the Bohol Capitol.

“I am grateful to the Ambassador His Excellency Huang Xilian for his visit to Bohol. I hope the visit deepens China-Bohol relations and fortifies our practical cooperation in many avenues,” Aumentao said.

“We also discussed agriculture, infrastructure, energy, and our commitment to maintaining the strong relationship between our peoples in the coming years,” the governor added.

Xilian emphasized China’s leadership and innovation in these areas and his commitment to assist Bohol in these areas.

The sisterhood partnership between the provinces of Bohol and Jiangxi (PRC) was also discussed which started during the time of the late Gov. Erico Aumentado.

The Chinese envoy also assured Aumentado for assistance in rehabilitating school buildings that were damaged by typhoon Odette (Rai) last December 2021.

China is willing to work with Bohol on the expansion of Mandarin Chinese learning in schools, the establishment of a possible “Two Countries, Two Parks” program, where industrial zones are hoping to be established in Bohol and a counterpart province in China, provision of supply of affordable fertilizers and assistance for the development of hatcheries in the fisheries sector, as the agriculture sector takes center stage in the current priorities of the national government.

A “sister fishing village” project was also discussed as a potential project that may have its pilot implementation in the province. 

It was also discussed of possible direct flights from China to Bohol considering that China was the province’s top-notch tourist market from 2016 to 2020 before the pandemic.

Accompanying Ambassador Huang were Counsellor Zhou Yong, Third Secretary Kan Shilai, and Mr. Hong Jie, while Governor Aumentado was accompanied by Chief of Staff lawyer Antonio Amora, Bohol Tourism Office Head Josephine Cabarrus, Provincial Agriculture Office Assistant Head Dr. Larry Pamugas, DepEd Bohol Division Superintendent Dr. Bianito Dagatan, and Executive Assistant for International Affairs Metodio Maraguinot Jr.
