The Regional Nutrition Cluster of Central Visayas identified cases of moderate acute malnutrition (MAM) during its 2nd day of nutrition cluster response in the province of Bohol.

A case of an eight-year-old boy Brgy. Poblacion in Talibon town, Bohol whose physical stature and appearance defy his age. His mid upper arm circumference (MUAC) measured 13 cm which is considered MAM.

Another 7-month-old MAM case was noted in Barangay San Francisco while two more children of Barangay Bagacay of same municipality were identified as at risk for moderate acute malnutrition. However, all the other children assessed in these three barangays were normal.

The Regional Nutrition Cluster visited the three barangays Talibon, Bohol still reeling from the devastation caused by Typhoon Odette that struck the province on the afternoon on Thursday (December 16, 2021).

The team continues the conduct of rapid nutrition assessment of at-risk population and provision of nutrition in emergency services to the vulnerable groups such as infants, children, pregnant and lactating women, the elderly, and persons with disabilities in the three barangays of Talibon that still have active evacuation centers.

Water, sanitation, and hygiene services were also provided by the WASH cluster. The team also assessed children having diarrhea, coughs and cold.

The children who were assessed as MAM and those with illnesses were endorsed to local health personnel for follow through treatment and continuous monitoring. // NO I Christine April M. Lopez, RND
