Tropical Storm Signal No. 2 is still up in Bohol province as Typhoon “Odette” (international name: Rai) further intensified on Wednesday night as it moved west northwestward over the Philippine Sea, said the Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa).

Pagasa said Odette’s initial landfall will be in Dagohoy town at 8 p. m. on Thursday night, Dec. 16.

As of 11 p.m, Pagasa said “Odette” was spotted approximately 470 kilometers East of Surigao City, Surigao del Norte, with maximum sustained winds of 140 kilometers per hour (kph) near the center and gusts of up to 170 kph.

It is currently moving west northwestward at 25 kph.

Meanwhile, moderate to heavy with at times intense rains are expected over Leyte, the southern portions of Eastern Samar and Samar, Iloilo, Capiz, Aklan, Antique, Guimaras, the northern portion of Zamboanga del Norte and the rest of Caraga.

Light to moderate with at times heavy rains, on the other hand, are expected in the Bicol Region, the rest of Zamboanga del Norte, Oriental Mindoro, Romblon, and the rest of Visayas and Northern Mindanao.

The typhoon is expected to hit land over Caraga-Eastern Visayas by Thursday afternoon or evening.
