1k Badjao evacuated in Dauis

At least 1,000 individuals who are members of the Badjao community in Barangay Totolan in Dauis town were evacuated on Thursday morning, Dec. 16.

According to Dauis Mayor Marietta Sumaylo, due to the strong currents brought by typhoon Odette, the local government decided to evacuate them.

The Badjaos were gathered in a covered court in Barangay Totolan to be immediately transferred to evacuation centers.

“Transfer them to our evacuation centers, to Dauis Gymn and also sad Covered Court in the municipality, and to our schools. Let’s scatter them so they don’t suffocate here. They need to be safe not only Badjao including the We have brought the Visayans out of the sea for their safety. ” (We will transfer them to evacuation centers, to the Dauis Gymn and the town’s Covered Court, and to our schools. They need to be safe not only the Badjaos but also the Visayans whom we have evacuated to the sea so that they are safe) ,” Sumaylo said.

Food and other necessities were readied while they are not sure if they will be able to return to their homes.

As of 12 noon, Bohol was placed under Storm Signal No. 4.
