The Department of Science and Technology Bohol Provincial Science and Technology Center (DOST-Bohol PSTC) deployed RxBox to 25 municipalities in the province of Bohol through its respective Rural Health Units (RHU) last October 2021.
The municipality beneficiaries are Antequera, Balilihan, Catigbian, Dauis, Maribojoc, Buenavista, Bien Unido, Getafe, Inabanga, Pres. Carlos P. Garcia, Sagbayan, San Isidro, Talibon, Trinidad, San Miguel, Ubay, Sevilla, Batuan, Bilar, Carmen, Dimiao, Guindulman, Garcia-Hernandez, Lila, and Valencia. One (1) medical staff and one (1) IT personnel from the each municipality were trained and capacitated to operate and maintain the RxBox device.
The RxBox Project implemented by the Department of Science and Technology (DOST) in partnership with the University of the Philippines Manila – National Telehealth Center is an ICT innovation designed to support DOH’s call for Kalusugang Pangakalahatan or Universal Health Care.
RxBox is a multi-component program designed to provide better access to life-saving health care services in isolated and disadvantaged communities nationwide.
It is a telemedicine device capable of capturing medical signals through built-in medical sensors, storing data in an electronic medical record system, and transmitting health information via the internet to a clinical specialist in the Philippine General Hospital.
It also catalyzes improvement in the local referral system by facilitating teleconsultation (audio-video conferences) within the National Telehealth Service Program.
The RxBox has the following medical devices and sensors; (a) Electrocardiogram (ECG), (b) Fetal Heart Monitor, (c) Maternal Tocometer, (d) Pulse Oximeter, (e) Non-Invasive Blood Pressure Monitor, and (f) Thermometer.
These sensors are connected to the RxBox device to conduct various medical examinations like taking vital signs, performing ECG for monitoring or diagnosis purposes, and conducting Electronic Fetal Monitoring (EFM) for pregnant women. It also has a Partograph Module for the recording of the observations made of pregnant women in labor. It also monitors the progress of the salient conditions of the mother and the fetus.
The presence of the RxBox in the RHUs in Bohol will enable the health workers to diagnose, monitor, and treat patients within the rural health facility, reducing the overall cost of healthcare.
