With the extension of the quarantine restrictions placed in the Highly Urbanized Cities (HUCs) in Cebu, the Land Transportation Office (LTO) 7 extends the suspension on the conduct of the Theoretical Driving Course (TDC) at the Malasakit Drivers Education Center in N. Bacalso Avenue, Cebu City.
LTO 7 temporarily suspended the conduct of TDCs after the National Government thru the COVID-19 Inter-Agency Task Force for the Management of Emerging Infectious Diseases placed Cebu City, Mandaue City, and Lapu-Lapu City under Modified Enhanced Community Quarantine (MECQ) in the whole month of August 2021.
Following the extension of the MECQ until September 7, LTO 7 regional director Victor Emmanuel Caindec said that they are also extending the suspension of the said course.
Since the agency suspended the conduct of the said course in August, they have also stopped receiving bookings for TDC schedules.
Currently, LTO 7’s Malasakit DEC caters to TDC scholars which can accommodate up to 25 individuals per week.
Meanwhile, RD Caindec added that the mobile TDC continues to roll out in the different towns and cities in the region.
Through LTO 7’s e-Patrol Bus, mobile TDCs are being conducted in the different local government units (LGUs).
“We will continue to serve the public with our mobile TDC at the same time we will abide with the IATF protocol with the capacity allowed in a venue.”
LTO Memorandum 2019-2176 requires all applicants of student-driver permit to undergo the 15-hour TDC.
In 2020, LTO has served a total of 871 TDC scholarships while from January till July of 2021, a total of 3,310 TDC scholarships were also issued.
LTO 7 TDC scholarships started in October 2020 where the majority of the scholars got their TDC certificates thru the LTO 7 Malasakit DEC Bus or also know as e-Patrol Bus./PR
