Gov. Arthur Yap inaugurated a water desalination facility in Pamilacan Island on Friday, March 19.
He was accompanied by Baclayon Mayor Benecio Uy and Bohol Mayors’ League President Marietta Sumaylo of Dauis.
Miss Universe Philippines 2020 winners led by Rabiya Mateo, Maria Isabella Ysmael, Pauline Amelinckx and Billie Hakenson also witnessed the event.
The water plant is the second facility in the province after an island in Getafe town.
Desalination is the process of removing salt and other minerals from sea water to create potable water. It is becoming an increasingly common method in areas that lack access to freshwater, but where seawater is plentiful.
Yap said the facility is a life-essential gift from the provincial government to residents who need clean and safe water.
An outreach program was also conducted in the island. School bags with school supplies and fresh milk were given to 224 schoolkids at Pamilacan Elementary School.
Pamilacan Island, part of Baclayon town, has at least 1,600 residents.
