At least three detainees at the Dauis police station have tested positive for coronavirus disease (Covid-19), prompting the local police to suspend all visiting privileges to contain the spread of the virus.

Dr. Joni Co, the municipal health officer, said at least 20 detainees were subjected to swab tests on Wednesday morning, Feb. 24, 2021, as an offshoot to the exposure to some personnel of the Dauis police station who tested positive for Covid.

The three detainees, however, showed no symptoms.

Dauis Mayor Marietta Sumaylo said the detainees who tested positive for Covid-19 had already been separated from the other detainees and moved to the old custodial facility at the old town hall in Barangay Poblacion.

No visitor would be allowed in station as recommended by health authorities to contain the spread of the infection.

Last Feb. 5, the police station of Dauis town was placed on lockdown after nine personnel and police tested positive for Covid-19.

Sumaylo said the PNP personnel infected were identified as first-generation contacts of the chief of police of Dauis who got infected with Covid-19 while in Cebu.
