Weather in Tagbilaran City, Bohol as of 1 p. m on Wednesday, February 17, 2021.

The tropical depression east of Mindanao has entered the Philippine monitoring area and was named Auring, state weather bureau Pagasa said Wednesday.

Pagasa said Auring — the first cyclone for this year — entered the Philippine Area of Responsibility at 8 a.m.

The weather disturbance was expected to intensify into a tropical storm on Friday and may make landfall over the east coast of Caraga-Davao region this weekend.

The tropical depression still has no effect on the country’s weather, Pagasw said earlier in the day.

The tail-end of a frontal system will bring moderate to heavy rains over Eastern Visayas and light to moderate with at times heavy rains over Central Visayas, Dinagat Islands, Camiguin, and Surigao del Norte.
