The construction of the farmers’ market at the President Carlos P. Garcia park.

Tagbilaran City Mayor Baba Yap has ordered the stoppage of the construction of the farmers’ market at the President Carlos P. Garcia Park.

In an interview with dyrd’s Inyong Alagad, Yap said the order was signed last Feb. 8 since it has not secured a permit from the city hall.

He reiterated that the place was not suited for a “bagsakan center” .

“Dili na allowed sa zoning, ordinansya. Dili na puwede mahimong bagsakan or farmers market,” Yap said.

He said there is a need to secure a building permit before doing any construction or renovation work to ensure that it conforms to all safety standards.

Dr. Larry Pamugas, assistant provincial agriculturist, said that the construction at the CPG Park is not a “bagsakan center” but only a “showroom display” where farmers can display their products.

Earlier, Gov. Arthur Yap said that the Capitol is not closing the park, nor favoring the farmers but the said farmers’ market is a “demonstration area” so that it can help the farmers for food security during the pandemic.

The exact prices of food stuff sold there minus the middlemen the said market could bring prices down, the governor added.

However, former Tagbilaran City Mayor Dan Lim has slammed the on-going construction of a farmers’ market.
