Most people think the grapes in the Philippine market are imported from countries with a cold climate.

While most Filipinos think that it is impossible to grow grapes in the Philippines because of its warm weather, topnotch lawyer Jennie Cabading is just one of the people who challenges those notions.

Cabading is a trial lawyer for eight years and is now into corporate law and business. She placed 4th in the 2007 Bar Examinations.

She said grapes grow in Bohol soil.

“And yes, grapes grow in Bohol soil especially here in our place where the soil and mesoclimate are perfect,” she told Bohol Island News.

“Getafe Hills Vineyard & Winery is a celebration of the place, the climate, the soil, the people, the grapes, the wine and for the love of the vine,” she added.

In a Facebook post, the young lawyer said she studied it intensely to hopefully bring into the bottle the greatest expression of the grapes grown in Getafe Hills Vineyard and Winery in Barangay Saguise, Getafe town.

“I adhere to the winegrowing-style of the most prestigious winegrowing region in the world- Burgundy, France,” she said.

She grows red cardinals, a table grape variety first produced in California in 1939.

Grapes are excellent sources of manganese and good sources of vitamin B6, thiamin (vitamin B1), potassium, and vitamin C. In addition, grapes contain flavonoids: phytochemicals that are antioxidant compounds.

The lawyer also posted photos on aggressive pruning strategy used in high-density planting retaining only a few buds, thus, only a few bunches per vine resulting to superior berries for winemaking.

The first grape harvest at the vineyard will be around late August or early September 2020.

The first Red Wine Vintage August-September 2020 called the “GETAFE BLEND” will be on the first quarter of 2021.

As of now, the Getafe Hills Vineyard and Winery is still under construction and development and the winemaking aspect is under research and development.

Getafe town will soon home to some of the most famous wines of the country.

Note: The Getafe Hills Vineyard and Winery is off-limits to the public.

Topnotch lawyer Jennie Cabading says grapes grow in Bohol soil for its perfect mesoclimate. She is expanding and planting a lot of vines, doing site development and mastering the art of winemaking.
