MARI patient jumps from Gallares hospital building

A male patient who was put in isolation at the Governor Celestino Gallares Memorial Hospital (GCGMH) in Tagbilaran City allegedly jumped off the second floor of the said hospital on Thursday late afternoon, June 25.

A source said that the patient was admitted at GCGMHS has a Moderate Acute Respiratory Infection (MARI).

In a public advisory on Thursday night, GCGMH clarified the patient managed to open the bathroom window in one of the isolation rooms of the COVID-19 Wing.

“Fortunately, after a thorough trauma assessment and diagnostic work-up, the patient did not sustain any major and debilitating injury,” the statement said.

It said that the patient is ” initially anxious and in distress” but is now stable and is securely recuperating in the COVID-19 Wing.

The patient is now under the multi-disciplinary care of the Behavioural Sciences Service, the COVID-19 Medical Team and the Patient Safety Committee, it said.

GCGMH said it was an isolated incident.

“GCGMH assures the public that the safety and needs of our patients always comes first. We shall issue updates as developments arise,” it said.
