Police have apprehended 93 persons on the prohibition of pillion riding (back riding) among motorcycle riders as a measure following social distancing protocols.
Lt. Col. Mary Crystal Peralta, acting chief of Tagbilaran City Police, led her troops in the conduct of check point and Oplan Sita at the Quarantine Control Point in Barangay Bool at about 5:45 p. m. on Friday, June 19, 2020.
The said operation was able to apprehend 93 violators of social distancing mostly from the neighboring towns of Tagbilaran City.
The apprehended violators evidently violated the City Ordinance No. C-297 series of 2020 in relation to the Executive Order No. 31 of the Province of Bohol.
All violators were brought to Tagbilaran City Police Station for booking, proper disposition and initiated a lecture/seminar on the nature and consequences of their actions.
Peralta informed the violators that Back-Riding in Tagbilaran City is still prohibited.
“We are not allowing back-riding in the city and I hope you will not be caught with the same violation again because recidivism has a fine of P3,000 to P5,000 and an imprisonment of not more than 6 months,” she added.
Motorcycle backriding is banned by the quarantine rules set by the Inter-Agency Task Force on Emerging Infectious Diseases (IATF) since physical distancing cannot be practiced. Some local governments have appealed the policy.
