Missing Limasawa fisherman found dead in Lila, Bohol

Two days after a fisherman from Limasawa island in Southern Leyte went missing, he was found dead in the sea waters off in Lila town in Bohol province on Monday, June 15.

The fisherman was identified as Jemuel D. Tio, 35, from Lugsungan village in Limasawa Island.

According to The Maasin Reporter, Tio and other fishermen were fishing flying fish in the high seas between Limasawa, Macrohon and Maasin city on June 13, 2020.

Ann Dagohoy, Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (MDRMO) of Limasawa, said when they already have a catch one of the fishermen left after buying their fish and the companions of the one who bought the catch were told to transfer to Tio’s pumpboat by swimming, The Maasin Reporter added.

But Tio’s boat had encountered engine trouble it drifted fast because of the strong current, those who tried to swim to Jemuel’s pumpboat could no longer catch him until he was nowhere to be seen.

Fortunately for those in the water, another fisherman from Limasawa passed by and let them ride on their way back to the island.

On Sunday, Limasawa MDRMO and PDRRMO led by their head Danilo Atienza, scoured the sea where Tio’s supposed area but to no avail.

He was only found this morning in Lila, Bohol and was fetched by the MDRMO team.
