The production of milkfish or “bangus” eggs of BFAR Region 7 has reached a remarkable performance that it even can support other region’s needs.

BFAR Region 7, through its Central Bangus Hatchery (CBH) in Calape town, Bohol, has given 1.1 million bangus eggs and 1 million bangus larvae to BFAR Region 8.

CBH head Dionisio Colantro said these were shipped on May 21 from Ubay port bound to Guian, Samar.

The transport of bangus eggs and larvae, he said, seems very timely as many areas in Samar province were hit by typhoon Ambo, affecting the fishery industry there.

Colantro added that the provision of bangus eggs and larvae to the neighboring region has earlier been planned in order to boost the country’s bangus industry, supporting the government’s aim for “sustainable” fishery production.
