The local government of Loay has earmarked P2.1 million as supplemental cash assistance for families in the municipality not covered by the social amelioration program (SAP) of the national government.

Mayor Hilario Ayuban Jr announced this last April 13.

“Mo gahin ang atong LGU ug P2,100,000.00 para sa mga households nga disqualified o’ dili maapil sa SAP @ P3,000.00 per household,” he said on his Facebook page.

The fund, sourced from different local government projects they decided to cancel or postpone until next year, is expected to benefit about 2,900 households.

Based on their computation, each household will receive P3,000 in cash assistance, similar to the national government’s SAP assistance.

Not all families will receive a cash grant under the SAP, according to the Department of Social Welfare and Development.

The social amelioration program under Republic Act 11469, or the Bayanihan to Heal as One Act, aims to mitigate the effects of Covid-19.

In his Facebook post, Ayuban posted the scheduled pay-out in barangays both SAP and LGU beneficiaries.

Under the Local Government Code, LGUs are tasked to provide basic social welfare services to its constituents. LGUs abide by such principle in identifying beneficiaries of the SAP.
