‘Isang Linggong Sardinas’

The coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic has shown the worst and best of individuals.

But for Boholana Gina Ramo, she chose to show the best that she can offer through the different recipes she has made out of the relief goods she has received from the city government of Tagbilaran.

Ramo, a mother of four, received a relief pack last week which contained two kilos of rice, canned goods (corned beef, sardines, and carne norte), a pack of sugar and coffee, “bihon”, and a bottle of alcohol.

She also received another 10 kilos of rice from their barangay.

Grateful for the blessings she received, Ramo showcased her different sardine dishes.

Today, she served sardine with malunggay for her family. Tomorrow, it will be sardine with “bihon” or “odong”.

Like Ramo, a 13-year-old girl from Surigao del Sur showed her best side when it comes to humor.

Jazmin Aruyal sang a hilarious song about eating sardines for a week to the tune of the Imelda Papin’s “Isang Linggong Pag-ibig”.

Whether in Bohol, Surigao del Sur or in any parts of the Philippines, it has been an innate trait of Filipinos to always put a brighter side to their current situation.

Ramo may have been reminded of relying heavily on relief goods from the government and other donors during her experience in the magnitude 7.2 earthquake in 2013, but her innovative way to put a simple canned sardine into a dish is just a proof that there’s always a brighter side of this COVID-19 pandemic.

Here are the lyrics of the “Isang Linggong Sardinas” song to lighten up what you are going through today:

Lunes, among sud-an kay tinapa
Martes, another tinapa
