What was supposed to be an official trip had unexpectedly turned sour as a village councilman ended up in jail in Cebu.
The village councilman identified as Claver Joseph Duhig from Tagbilaran City was arrested by Abellana Police in Cebu City early Thursday morning after causing a scene at the hotel he is staying in.
Abellana Police Station 2 identified the suspect as a village councilman of Barangay Poblacion 1 in Tagbilaran City.
He was jailed Tuesday after he allegedly punched a police officer in the nose while being handcuffed inside the hotel he was staying.
Police Sergeant Robert Batucan and other two policemen responded to a call from the hotel after the councilman allegedly displayed uncontrollable behavior.
“Nag-wild ang maong laki unya maskin unsaon namo badlung dili magpatoo. Hubog man gud,” said a hotel staff.
While officers were speaking with the suspect, he reportedly became uncooperative that prompted officers to handcuff him while finishing the investigation.
As Batucan was handcuffing him, the Boholano barangay official accordingly punched him in the nose, causing it to bleed.
He was arrested and booked into jail due to public scandal, suspicion of battery on an officer and resisting arrest.
The officer was treated at the scene by responding medics.
Police Major Elisandro Quijano, chief of Police Station 2 where the policeman is currently assigned, told reporters that it will be up to his policeman if he will press charges against the councilor.
The councilor asked for an apology from the policeman and his constituents for doing such acts.
