A policeman was arrested for indiscriminate firing on Friday, February 7.
The arrested police officer was identified as Police Staff Sergeant Randy Joy Itong, assigned at the Provincial Mobile Force Company (PMFC) at Camp Francisco Dagohoy Headquarters.
Investigation showed that residents at Glovasa Street near the Governor’s Mansion in Barangay Cogon, reported that the suspect, also a resident of the place, was firing his hand gun indiscriminately for unknown reason.
Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) of the Tagbilaran City police headed by Police Staff Master Sgt. Rex Aranjuez immediately responded and arrested Itong and confiscated from his possession his service firearm – a Glock 17 9MM pistol.
In an initial investigation, it said that Itong had an argument with his wife.
This is the second incident that a policeman was arrested for indiscriminate firing.
Meanwhile, Police Lt. Col. Jonathan Cabal underscored that a pre-charge investigation is now ongoing and criminal and administrative charges are being prepared against Itong.
The policeman is now facing charges for illegal discharge of firearm, alarm and scandal and violation of Republic Act 10591, otherwise known as the Comprehensive Law on Firearms and Ammunition.
