MV Fortune Tiger traveled from China to Garcia Hernandez town to collect limestone at PMSC.

Barangay officials of West Canayaon in Garcia Hernandez town are not letting their guards down as they carefully monitor the activities of the Chinese crew on board a Chinese vessel that docked there earlier this morning.

According to village chief Joeritz Baybay, they were only allowed to dock but there were strict orders not to let the 22 Chinese crew disembark from the said vessel.

Baybay showed a copy of a letter from the office of Mayor Tita Baja where it instructed the Philippine Mining Service Corporation (PMSC) resident manager to implement this.

Baja attached a copy of the Department of Health (DOH) Memorandum Circular 2020-02 where it details the “Guidelines at All Seaports for Prevention and Spread of the 2019-novel coronavirus acute respiratory disease (2019-nCoV ARD)”.

Under this memorandum circular, all vessels that had port calls in the past two weeks in China will be subjected to quarantine procedures by the Bureau of Quarantine (BOQ) personnel. The procedures include checking of each of the crew for any fever with the help of an infrared thermometer and the submission of a list attesting that the crew did not disembark in the past two weeks at any port in China.

Baybay shared that this was already conducted by the BOQ personnel. They found out that the crew members did not show signs and symptoms of fever, cough, and colds.

It was allowed to dock at around 9.am. today, February 7, 2020.

Baybay said their strict monitoring, upon orders of Mayor Baja, is to also ensure that no crew would interact with the locals there as a precaution for the possible spread of 2019-nCoV ARD in the town.
