A Japanese national died after drowning in Barangay Tanawan in Oslob town, southern Cebu on Thursday morning, January 2, 2020.

According to Oslob PNP, the victim was identified as 56-year-old Marinubo Kurayama.

The incident happened at past 8 a.m. today while the victim had a whale watching activity.

In a separate report by Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) substation in Oslob, the snorkeling guide identified as Airi Hemeno from SeaSir Agency said that Kurayama felt ill and experienced difficulty in breathing.

Hemeno said that blood was coming out from the victim’s nose and mouth.

He was immediately brought to Oslob District Hospital but was pronounced dead on arrival.

Encina said they could not rule out yet that the incident was caused by drowning as the Japanese national may have underlying conditions that caused blood to come out of his nose and mouth.

The Oslob police are also currently investigating the incident.
