Bohol cops destroy seized illegal firecrackers

Illegal firecrackers worth P52,000 that confiscated by the Bohol Provincial Police Office (BPPO) during Christmas and New Year holidays were disposed this morning, Jan. 2, 2020.

The illegal fireworks were confiscated from December 16 to January 1 police operations of Municipal Police Stations and Tagbilaran City Police Station in Bohol.

BPPO said that despite the law prohibiting the sale of dangerous firecrackers, there are still those who tried to sell the said items.

Police Lieutenant Colonel Jimmy Aguisanda, Deputy Provincial Director for Administration and Officer in Charge of BPPO, led the police in destroying the firecrackers in a ceremony held at the Camp Francisco Dagohoy Headquarters grounds.

The seized firecrackers were poured with water.

Republic Act 7183 prohibits the sale of firecrackers such as super lolo, Goodbye Earth, Five Star, whistle bomb, atomic triangle, piccolo, watusi and pla-pla and other unlabeled firecrackers.

There were five firecracker-related injury that were recorded at the Gov. Celestino Gallares Memorial Hospital (GCGMH) from Dec. 21-31, 2019.

As of 11 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 1, 2020, there were four recorded firecracker-related injuries in Alicia, Anda and Candijay.
