Boholanos celebrated the New Year 2020 peacefully in spite of a firecracker-related injury that was recorded before the celebration last night.

Police Col. Jonathan Cabal, director of the Bohol Provincial Police Office (BPPO), said the New Year celebration in Bohol was ‘generally peaceful’.

“Generally peaceful tayo sa Bohol… no stray bullet injuries nor monitored indiscriminate firings ng mga PNP personnel. This was due to the strict guidance of our RD Gen Val De Leon to strictly warn our personnel not to discharge their firearms. Hence, no need for the muzzle taping of guns,” Cabal said.

There were five firecracker-related injury that were recorded at the Gov. Celestino Gallares Memorial Hospital (GCGMH).

However, only one firecracker-related injury was recorded during the New Year revelry.

A four-year-old boy from Cortes town was brought to GCGMH last night after he suffered burns on his head due to a firecracker named “flying tiger”.

He is the fifth case since monitoring of such incidents began since Dec. 21.

Based on GCGMH records, there was one case recorded last Dec. 25 and Dec. 26 and two cases last Dec. 29, 2019.

They were all minor injuries and were advised to go home after getting treatment.
