Boholanos will be celebrating Christmas Day with either lighted candles or emergency lights after the entire Bohol province experienced a massive power interruption shortly before midnight.

In an advisory sent to Bohol media, the National Grid Corporation of the Philippines (NGCP) said the power loss was due to line trippings after Typhoon Ursula ravaged Eastern Visayas since this afternoon.

Ma. Betty Martinez, spokesperson for NGCP here in the Visayas, told Bohol Island News (BIN) in a phone interview that lines within Bohol province were affected.

However, there were more power lines affected in Leyte and Samar provinces.

Bohol province sources its power from Leyte where the geothermal power plant is located. The said plant also provides power to the Visayas grid.

Martinez emphasized that they are not certain yet as to what time power will be restored.

“Patrols can’t be done yet in Leyte-Samar area due to strong typhoon rains and winds,” she told BIN. ###
