JAGNA, Bohol — Mayor Mark Louie Monungolh has ordered the immediate suspension of classes in all levels in both public and private schools in Jagna, Bohol, on Friday, August 7, as authorities validate a reported threat circulating on social media.
Monungolh said the suspension is a preventive measure to ensure the safety and security of students, teachers and non-teaching personnel while law enforcement authorities conduct security assessments and strengthen operations in schools.
The Jagna Municipal Police Station, together with other uniformed personnel and school authorities, has conducted initial security assessments in schools across the municipality.
“The safety, security, and well-being of every learner, teacher, and non-teaching personnel shall always come before anything else,” Monungolh said.
He emphasized that the suspension is “purely preventive in nature” and was ordered while authorities continue to validate the authenticity and credibility of the reported social media threat.
The mayor also directed the police, in coordination with other uniformed personnel and force multipliers, to intensify security operations in schools, including the deployment of personnel in strategic areas, increased visibility patrols and 24/7 roving operations.
The municipal government said the Philippine National Police, Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office, Bureau of Fire Protection and force multipliers remain on full alert while the situation is being assessed.
Monungolh encouraged school administrators to use modular, online or other alternative learning modalities, when practicable, during the suspension to ensure the continuity of learning without compromising the safety of students.
He also appealed to students and parents to remain calm, avoid spreading unverified information and rely only on official announcements from the Local Government Unit of Jagna, Department of Education and law enforcement agencies.
“The safety of every Jagnaanon will always be our foremost priority,” the mayor said.
