After serving her three-month suspension, Panglao Mayor Leonila Paredes-Montero returned to the Municipal Hall to reassume her post as duly elected mayor on Tuesday, Nov. 5.

She was supposed to be back in office on Monday, Nov. 4, but it was a special non-working holiday in Bohol in observance of the 123rd birth anniversary of the late President Carlos P. Garcia.

Tuesday’s first order of business was a meeting with the consultants of the Department of Tourism for tourism sustainable longterm plan.

In a Facebook post by her staff, Montero thanked Vice Mayor Briccio Velasco for implementing the programs while she was suspended.

“I would like to thank and congratulate our Vice-Mayor Hon. Briccio Velasco for religiously implementing the programs which I have prepared prior to my leave of absence,” she said.

“I am here, re-energized, to steer once again the governance of the Municipality of Panglao and together with my people, we will hum together this mantra, LET’S GEAR HIGHER!,” the post added.

Montero was ordered suspended for 90 days by the Sandiganbayan 6th Division over graft cases allegedly involving unlawful appointments of consultants to the municipal government in 2013, an act prohibited under the Local Government Code.
