Students take part in 2nd quarter earthquake drill in Bohol

At least 3,000 students of Dr. Cecilio Putong National High School (DCPNHS) in Tagbilaran City, Bohol joined the simultaneous nationwide 2nd quarter earthquake drill on Thursday afternoon, June 20, 2019.

When the alarm rang at 2 p.m. on Thursday, Celian Janica Pesquira, 16, a grade 10 student of Dr. Cecilio Putong National High School (DCPNHS) in this city, she immediately applied the “drop, cover, and hold on” position and went outside the four-storey building.

Pesquira was one of the 3,000 students who joined the 2nd quarter earthquake drill on Thursday afternoon which is simultaneously held in Metro Manila.

After they were taught the “duck, cover and hold” position and evacuate in an open space outside the school ground recommend during earthquake.

The open space was earlier identified as school’s safety evacuation area.

Students and teachers who occupied the two four-storey buildings safely arrived at the open space.

In 2013, a 7.2 magnitude earthquake hit Bohol which killed 200 and destroyed centuries old churches.

According to assistant school principal II Melchor Daniel, Jr., the drill was to keep themselves updated and aware of what to do in case an earthquake occurs.

DCPNHS is the largest integrated public high school in Bohol with 6, 507 students enrolled for this school year.
