TAGBILARAN CITY, Bohol — Another newborn baby was found abandoned in Panglao, Bohol, on Friday morning, Oct. 30, just four days after a baby girl was rescued in the same town.

The newborn boy was discovered at around 3 a.m. on top of a small table inside a residence in Purok 5, Barangay Danao, Panglao.

According to a police report, 53-year-old Myrna Ayup was awakened by the sound of a baby crying. When she went outside to investigate, she was surprised to find the newborn boy wrapped in a black jacket and lying on a small table within her property.

Ayup immediately sought help from a neighbor and contacted the Panglao Emergency Medical Response Unit (PEMRU).

Responders, together with personnel from the Rural Health Unit (RHU), rushed to the scene and brought the baby to the RHU for medical examination and appropriate medical attention.

Police personnel, including members of the Women and Children Protection Desk, also responded to verify the incident and provide assistance.

Authorities said further investigation was underway to establish the circumstances surrounding the baby’s abandonment and identify the person responsible.

The incident came four days after a newborn baby girl, wrapped in a blanket, was rescued by disaster response personnel after she was found abandoned in a grassy area near a college in Panglao.

The two incidents have raised concerns over the abandonment of newborn babies in the municipality.
