TAGBILARAN CITY, Bohol — Ubay Mayor Violeta Diangco-Reyes, known for her years of public service and leadership in one of Bohol’s largest municipalities, passed away on Monday, June 22. She was 58.
The Municipal Government of Ubay announced her death in an official statement, describing her passing as a great loss to the town and the people she served.
The cause of death was not disclosed by the family.
Reyes was the wife of Ubay Vice Mayor Constantino Reyes.
“It is with profound sadness and heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved Municipal Mayor, Hon. Violeta D. Reyes,” the municipality said.
The local government paid tribute to Reyes for her dedication to public service, citing her commitment, compassion, and concern for the welfare of Ubayanons throughout her years in office.
“Through her visionary leadership, integrity, and steadfast dedication, she touched countless lives and contributed immensely to the growth and development of our municipality,” the statement read.
The municipality said Reyes’ death is a significant loss not only to her family and loved ones but also to the entire community she served with “humility, strength, and devotion.”
“As we mourn this painful loss, we remember and honor her remarkable legacy of service, leadership, and love for the people,” the statement added.
Following news of her passing, tributes and messages of condolence poured in from colleagues, friends, and public officials.
Bohol 2nd District Rep. Vanessa Aumentado expressed her condolences to the Reyes family and remembered the mayor as both a public servant and a close friend.
“Thank you, Mayor Ate Violy, for your friendship, kindness, and unwavering support through the years. Beyond your role as a leader, you have been a true friend whose presence brought comfort, strength, and joy to so many lives, including mine,” Aumentado said.
“The memories we shared, the laughter, the conversations, and the challenges we faced together will forever remain in my heart. Your friendship was a gift that I will always cherish,” she added.
Reyes served as mayor of Ubay and was regarded as one of the prominent local leaders in Bohol.
During her tenure, she championed programs aimed at improving public services and advancing the municipality’s development.
Details regarding memorial services and funeral arrangements have yet to be announced by the family.
The municipal government of Ubay called on residents to join in prayer and remembrance for the late mayor.
“May the Almighty grant her eternal rest and comfort all who grieve her passing,” the statement said.
“Rest in peace, Ma’am Violeta D. Reyes. Your legacy will forever live in the hearts of the people of Ubay.”
