TAGBILARAN CITY — A man accused of punching a customer inside a McDonald’s restaurant along J.A. Clarin Street here will face a complaint for slight physical injuries, with the formal complaint set to be filed on Thursday, Sept. 17.
According to an investigator of the Tagbilaran City Police Station, the confrontation reportedly began in Saint Joseph Village when the motorcycles of the victim and the suspect came alongside each other.
Police said the suspect allegedly stared at the woman riding with the victim, prompting the victim to confront him. The suspect allegedly followed the pair to the McDonald’s branch, where he challenged the victim to a fight.
The incident occurred shortly after 11:40 p.m. on Sept. 9.
The victim told police that he asked the suspect not to fight inside the restaurant and suggested that they settle the matter outside. Instead, the suspect allegedly grabbed his face and punched him several times.
The victim also said he had only recently been discharged from a hospital after being treated for dengue and was still recovering when the alleged assault occurred.
Police described the suspect as about 5 feet 9 inches to 5 feet 11 inches tall, heavyset with a large abdomen and moderately dark complexion. He was reportedly riding a Burgman motorcycle with a woman. Police did not release the suspect’s identity.
Meanwhile, the management of McDonald’s J.A. Clarin issued an official statement expressing concern over the incident and assuring the public that it was being taken seriously.
The management said it was fully cooperating with authorities. However, upon the advice of its legal team, it said it would refrain from issuing further comments while the official legal process is ongoing.
