TAGBILARAN CITY —An Inabanga resident has publicly raised concerns over an alleged lack of outpatient medical consultations on Sundays at the Francisco Dagohoy Memorial Hospital, saying patients may be left without access to immediate medical attention.
In a Facebook post, Ruthy Arcales recounted her experience after her partner reportedly stepped on a nail and began experiencing numbness.
Arcales said they first sought medical assistance in Sagbayan but were unable to find a doctor. They then proceeded to the Francisco Dagohoy Memorial Hospital, arriving at around 1:30 p.m.
According to Arcales, she asked at the hospital nurse station if a doctor was available and was directed to the outpatient department (OPD).
She said that when they reached the OPD, she encountered a hospital staff member whom she identified as James Duallo. Arcales said she asked whether a doctor was available and requested that her partner be examined because of the numbness he was experiencing.
Instead, she alleged that they were directed to a private doctor across the road because, according to Duallo, there were no outpatient checkups on Sundays.
Arcales questioned the absence of Sunday outpatient services at a government hospital, particularly for residents who cannot afford private medical care.
“Our lives don’t stop on Sundays and resume on Mondays. Life doesn’t have a reset button and every second counts,” Arcales wrote.
She appealed to Inabanga Mayor Dexter Muneses Ancla to look into the matter and address her concern for residents who may need medical attention outside regular outpatient hours.
The incident and the hospital’s Sunday outpatient services could not be independently verified based solely on Arcales’ Facebook post. The hospital and local government have yet to issue a public response to the allegations.
