TAGBILARAN CITY, Bohol — Police have launched a manhunt for a mechanic who allegedly attacked and slashed his live-in partner, a 47-year-old barangay day care teacher, inside their home in Barangay Ondol, Inabanga on Friday night.
Investigators identified the suspect as Cornelio Rigo, also known as “Loloy,” who remains at large as of this writing.
Based on the initial police investigation, the victim was asleep with her two children when the suspect allegedly attacked her without warning. Authorities said he used a knife to inflict multiple slash wounds on her face and neck, leaving her seriously injured.
After the incident, the suspect reportedly fled using a vehicle that had been entrusted to him by a customer for repair.
The victim was rushed to a hospital for treatment while police immediately launched operations to locate and arrest the suspect.
The victim’s family said they intend to file criminal charges against the suspect.
They also alleged that the suspect had become increasingly jealous despite having no evidence of infidelity and claimed his behavior may have been influenced by illegal drug use.
The family further believes the suspect intended to permanently disfigure the victim rather than kill her.
The family also claimed that the suspect had previously been jailed in connection with an attempted rape case involving a minor.
Police, however, have yet to verify the family’s allegations regarding the suspect’s alleged drug use and previous criminal record.
Authorities said the investigation is ongoing to determine the motive and establish all the circumstances surrounding the attack, while the search for the suspect continues.
