TAGBILARAN CITY — A total of 270 barangay and municipal officials from the town of Loon participated in a capacity development training aimed at strengthening grassroots food security, agricultural productivity, and sustainable livelihood programs.
The training was held Tuesday, June 9, at the Ceremonial Hall of the New Provincial Capitol as part of the provincial government of Bohol’s continuing efforts to enhance local capacities in agriculture, fisheries, livestock production, livelihood development, and climate-resilient governance.
Participants included village chiefs, barangay kagawads serving on agriculture committees, Barangay Livestock Aides (Balas), leaders of farmers’ and fisherfolk associations, municipal councilors heading agriculture committees, and representatives from the Municipal Agriculture Office of Loon.
The program was implemented through the Local Government Affairs Office headed by Executive Assistant Stephen Rances.
In his welcome message, Rances emphasized the importance of collaboration among local government units, agriculture stakeholders, and community organizations in promoting food security and sufficiency throughout Bohol.
Vice Governor Nick Besas highlighted the significance of capacity-building programs in improving local governance and public service.
“This training aims to provide additional knowledge, proper approaches, and a strong foundation in governance so that our officials can further improve their service to the people and effectively implement barangay projects,” Besas said.
The training featured technical discussions on climate-smart agriculture, fisheries and freshwater aquaculture development, livestock and poultry-based livelihood opportunities, rabies prevention, and livelihood support initiatives.
Experts from the Office of the Provincial Agriculturist discussed interventions on rice seed production, vegetable value chain development, organic agriculture, agricultural mechanization, and integrated food security strategies.
Senior Agriculturist Ramil Rodela underscored the role of climate-smart agriculture and fisheries in building resilient and sustainable food systems.
Representatives from the Office of the Provincial Veterinarian and the Department of Agriculture also provided updates on livestock and poultry livelihood programs, while
Provincial Legal Officer Handel Lagunay discussed the Bantay Rabies sa Barangay program.
Board Member Lucille Lagunay encouraged coconut farmers to register and avail themselves of government assistance and intervention programs.
Meanwhile, Liga ng mga Barangay-Bohol Chapter President and Board Member Romulo Cepedoza thanked the provincial government for its continued support to barangay officials through capacity-building initiatives.
Cepedoza said the administration of Governor Aris Aumentado continues to allocate substantial resources to programs and services that directly benefit barangays across the province.
Also present during the activity were Board Member Joahna Cabalit-Initay and officials from various provincial offices and partner agencies.
