TAGBILARAN CITY — A village official was shot dead outside a cockpit arena in Clarin town on Sunday noon, May 24.
The victim was identified as Marino Montojo, an active barangay kagawad of Barangay Caluwasan, Clarin.
Police said Montojo was declared dead on the spot after sustaining multiple gunshot wounds in different parts of his body.
Initial investigation revealed that the victim was about to head home on board his motorcycle after attending a cockfight when an unidentified suspect suddenly approached him from behind and opened fire.
Authorities said the suspect immediately fled after the shooting.
The Clarin Police Station has yet to determine the motive behind the killing and identify the person responsible for the attack.
Police are conducting a deeper investigation and hot pursuit operation to identify and arrest the fleeing suspect.
