TAGBILARAN CITY — The provincial government of Bohol is pushing for the conversion of 29 provincial roads into national roads to secure greater funding support from the national government for road improvement and maintenance.
Gov. Erico Aristotle Aumentado said the initiative was among the key matters discussed during a meeting with Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) Sec.Vince Dizon in Manila on Tuesday, May 5, 2026.
According to Aumentado, the proposed conversion would allow the DPWH to allocate funds for the rehabilitation, upgrading, and maintenance of the roads, easing the financial burden on the provincial government while accelerating infrastructure development across Bohol.
“Mabungahon ang atong pakighinabi kang DPWH Secretary Vince Dizon dinhi sa Manila karong adlawa, diin atong giduso sa ilang buhatan ang pag-convert sa pipila ka mga provincial roads sa Bohol ngadto na sa pagka-national roads,” Aumentado said.
He explained that once the roads are classified as national roads, the national government could directly fund their development through the DPWH.
“Kung mahimo na kining national roads, makagahin ang nasudnong pangagamhanan, pinaagi sa DPWH, og pondo alang sa pagpa-improve niini nga mga kadalanan, lakip na pag-mintinar niini,” he added.
The proposed road conversions, which have been endorsed by the Sangguniang Panlalawigan, cover strategic routes across the province.
Area 1 includes roads linking the towns of Corella, Balilihan, Baclayon, San Isidro, Catigbian, Antequera, Alburquerque, Maribojoc, Loon and nearby junction roads connecting major provincial corridors.
Area 2 covers road networks linking San Miguel, Ubay, Danao, Inabanga, Buenavista, Alicia, Getafe, Mabini, Trinidad, Bien Unido and Pres. Carlos P. Garcia, including access roads leading to ports and wharves that support inter-island and local transport connectivity.
Area 3 includes routes connecting Loboc, Sevilla, Guindulman, Pilar, Bilar, Candijay, Anda and Sikatuna, strengthening access to the province’s interior and eastern municipalities.
