TAGBILARAN CITY — Seven individuals were rescued after a motorbanca partially submerged in the waters between Barangay Tilmobo in President Carlos P. Garcia, Bohol and Barangay Guadalupe in Maasin City, Southern Leyte on Friday, April 24.
In an incident report, the Philippine Coast Guard said personnel from Coast Guard Sub-Station Pres. Carlos P. Garcia, in coordination with Task Force Kalikupan, immediately responded to the distress call and conducted search and rescue (SAR) operations in the area.
Upon arrival, responders located two motorbancas at the scene. Four passengers—identified as senior citizens—were transferred to a rescue boat operated by the local government unit, while the remaining three individuals were safely brought ashore at Barangay Tilmobo.
The four rescued passengers were later transported to Pitogo Port, where they were turned over to the Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (MDRRMO) of Pitogo for proper assistance and documentation.
No casualties were reported in the incident. Authorities have yet to determine the cause of the motorbanca’s submersion.
