TAGBILARAN CITY — Bohol Gov. Erico Aristotle Aumentado on Tuesday refuted social media reports alleging plans to sell water from the Inabanga River, calling them “fake news.”

The governor said there is no conflict between the provincial government and the local government unit of Inabanga over the issue, contrary to circulating claims online.

He stressed that the province’s current priority is to ensure that Inabanga and nearby towns will benefit first from the river’s water supply.

Aumentado disclosed that the Inabanga LGU has formally expressed support for the province’s water development plans through a recent communication sent to the Capitol.

He added that once the project is implemented, the host municipality will be the primary beneficiary.

The governor also backed Inabanga’s own water system project, which received P50 million in funding from the office of Rep. Vanessa Aumentado.

Earlier, Aumentado gathered 15 LGUs from the first and second districts to advance discussions on the proposed Bohol Intermunicipal Bulk Water Supply Project, which seeks to link water sources from Inabanga to other towns with growing demand.
