DUERO, Bohol — The local government of Duero will purchase palay from local farmers and distribute it as free rice to residents under its Rice Subsidy Program, Mayor Al Taculad announced.

Taculad said the initiative aims to support farmers by providing them with a guaranteed market for their harvest while ensuring that families in the town receive direct food assistance.

Under the program, the local government unit of Duero will buy palay from local producers, have it milled, and distribute the rice to households.

Each family is expected to receive 10 kilograms of rice.

The mayor described the program as a “dual-benefit” initiative, helping boost the income of farmers while easing the financial burden on residents amid current economic challenges.

He added that the effort aligns with the broader food security initiatives of the administration of Ferdinand Marcos Jr., which seeks to address the country’s ongoing crisis and ensure that Filipino families have access to sufficient food.

The municipal government assured that the program will be sustained to strengthen the agriculture sector and improve the living conditions of residents.

An exact schedule for the distribution of free rice has yet to be announced, but local officials said efforts are underway to implement the program as soon as possible.
