TAGBILARAN CITY, Bohol — Rev. Fr. Gerardo “Jingboy” Saco has announced that his episcopal ordination and installation as bishop will take place on May 26, 2026, at the St. Joseph the Worker Cathedral-Shrine here.

In a pastoral message addressed to the faithful, Saco expressed humility and gratitude following his appointment, acknowledging what he described as his “unworthiness” for the role while placing his trust in God’s grace.

“I thank the Lord, the Good Shepherd, who in His infinite love and wisdom has called me to serve as your bishop,” Saco said. “I am aware of my weaknesses and limitations, but I trust that God’s grace is sufficient.”

Saco also recognized the prayers, patience, and hope of the faithful during the period of waiting for a new bishop, describing their unity as a sign of strong faith within the diocese.

The ordination rites will begin at 9:00 a.m., drawing clergy, religious, and lay faithful from across the diocese and beyond.

The ceremony will be led by Most Rev. Alberto Uy, Archbishop of Cebu, as principal consecrator. He will be joined by co-consecrators Most Rev. Crispin Varquez, Bishop of Borongan, and Most Rev. Socrates Mesiona, Bishop of the Apostolic Vicariate of Puerto Princesa.

The canonical installation will be presided over by Most Rev. Charles John Brown, Apostolic Nuncio to the Philippines.

Saco emphasized that his new role is not a personal journey but a shared mission with the faithful, calling for unity, cooperation, and mutual respect under the guidance of Christ.

As he prepares to begin his ministry, Saco appealed for continued prayers, expressing hope that the Holy Spirit will guide the diocese in building a Church “stronger in faith, alive in hope, and filled with love and service.”

The upcoming ordination and installation are expected to be a significant event for the Catholic community in Bohol, marking a new chapter in the leadership of the diocese.
